Busy times around Mille Lacs! I haven't got a fishing report out in awhile, I apologize. Lets get everybody up to speed on what I have been seeing in my boat..
Bass
The Smallmouth bass fishing has slowed a little on Lake Mille Lacs. A combination of increased fishing pressure and strange weather patterns seems to be the common thought. Still plenty of fish to be caught! The bigger bass have been coming a little deeper, 8-16 feet of water. Mostly on drop shots and stand up jigs. For more action but somewhat smaller fish try up shallow. Tops of shallow gravel and edges of the pencil grass in the 2-4 foot range with a senko or xrap. Morning and evening topwater bite has been good as well. Fish are spitting up crayfish and bugs.. Some excellent large mouth bass fishing going on in the backwater bays on the south end.. Frogs, senkos seem to work nicely.
Musky
Musky fishing is in typical summer fashion here on the big lake. Deep weed lines and open water have accounted for some big catches recently. Vineland bay and north end sand break are good places to be. Bucktails like a showgirl or eagle tail in bright or black and nickle combinations have produced fish. Don't overlook a deep running crank bait cast over deep weeds.. Large crank baits and deep running blade baits for the trollers.
Walleye
Well we are currently on a walleye fishing and live bait ban here on Lake Mille Lacs. We have landed a few nice walleyes while bass fishing and I do see the bite being fantastic when the walleye season opens back up on the 27th. Until then we can only Imagine how good it will be. As of this afternoon the water temp was hovering right around the 72 mark main lake on the south end.
